SHOOTING STAR And Others By Saba Khandakar

SHOOTING STAR
Have you ever seen a shooting star?
Glistening like teardrops,
Fast, sudden and so far,
What an unforeseen event, so bizarre!

When I first looked into those eyes,
I saw colors vibrant as acrylic dyes,
Thought you were the missing piece to the puzzle,
Yet you are the very reason why I crumble.

You were the love of my life, no deny,
However, what you said back then was just a lie.
Should’ve known from the start,
That boy does not have a heart!

You promised you’d be here for me,
But look at us now: just strangers. How could it be?
Well you are as fake as your promises,
I can guarantee!

Just like a shooting star,
You came and went.
With only a fleeting wish fulfilled:
Gave me bliss for a brief moment.
The price for which I have to pay;
This never ending bleeding scar!

MY SUNSHINE
You are the solar disk of my life,
Providing me with instant warmth when I arrive.
You shower my dark soul with rays of positivity,
For which I will thank you for as long as I’m alive.

When the days were blue,
You stuck to me like glue.
Which is why I promise to never leave you two.

Every day a knight in shining armour,
You know what you are,
What a charmer!

I am eternally grateful to call you “friend”
Until the very end.

EVERYTHING WILL BE OKAY!
Scary monsters in my closet, a small girl’s imagination?
They don’t let me fall asleep, fill me with agitation.
Need to get out of this bitter, bleak room,
I’m not as brave as I’d like to assume.
Yet my silent struggle must’ve somehow been heard
She came in; suddenly the idea of monsters seemed absurd.
She kissed my forehead and wiped my tears away.
“Baby girl, I am right here. Everything will be okay”

I am now moody; everything constantly on my nerves,
I lash out bitter words that break her heart, something she never deserves!
I’m a mess; I keep ruining things, keep breaking my promises;
I am Trouble itself, in every form. A hater!
Yet, she hugs me tightly and says:
“Baby girl, I am always here. Everything will be okay!”

She’s been with me through thick and thin,
Still cries when I sin,
Screams in joy when I win.
How does a brat deserve such a precious gem?
“Please don’t ever jinx it.” I pray and say “Amen!”
